TMS Integration and the Drive for More Productivity

In 2004, American information workers switched their attention between tasks on average every three minutes. In 2012, that time had decreased to one minute and 15 seconds. By the summer of 2014, an information worker switched between tasks every 59.5 seconds! While these constant changes between tasks have resulted in work being done faster, the researchers found that workers experienced more stress and higher frustrations.

At the enterprise level, the ability to integrate information from multiple aspects of a business not only reduces the need for people to switch their attention between systems to complete tasks, it is a must to provide managers with real-time operating information. For the transportation business ORBCOMM has been driving a number of integrations with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) to make the working day easier (and more productive!) for fleet managers.

This week ORBCOMM is announcing the successful integration of ORBCOMM’s fleet tracking and monitoring system with TMWSuite®.  The integration provides trucking companies the ability to capture near real-time trailer data for both refrigerated and dry transport assets through one comprehensive system. Using ORBCOMM’s GT 1100 dry van trailer tracking solution and its RT 6000+ cold chain monitoring solution, customers will have access to valuable trailer data, including temperature, mileage, fuel levels, operational condition and GPS position. The advanced functionality and flexibility will enable TMW customers to gain significant savings, optimize temperature compliance and prevent unauthorized usage.

Phillip Seston, Operations Manager for H & N Logistics, LLC knows the value of the integration. It will now allow him and his team to easily monitor the location and status of their refrigerated assets and set alerts to monitor the temperature of their reefers, based on the requirements of each unique customer order. The integration is also going to allow H & N Logistics dispatchers to be more productive by reducing the number of applications they have to switch between to access valuable data, as well as increase asset utilization and improve overall day-to-day operations.
