These are interesting and challenging times for truckload carriers, shippers and receivers. First, new Internet of Things (IoT) technology is turning trailers and containers into “smart” assets that track, monitor and control fleets and cargo. At the same time, cargo theft is bringing security solutions to the forefront, while new regulations (such as the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) are putting more pressure on food transporters than ever before.

At the core of solutions to these challenges is wireless technology which provides data that becomes instantly actionable at any point along the supply chain. Turning fleets, trailers and containers into smart assets can have a significant impact on operational costs, profitability and customer satisfaction.

I’m looking forward to discussing these trends next week at the Truckload Carriers Association 2016 Annual Convention. For 78 years, the TCA Annual Convention has become the premier gathering for the truckload segment of the trucking industry, where industry executives share ideas and develop new strategies for the future.
