As part of Wal-Mart’s pledge to make its food system more eco-friendly and improve food safety, the nation’s large food retailer is urging its suppliers to stop using antibiotics on farm animals. According to Anne D’innocenzio, AP Retail Writer, the new guidelines from the nation’s largest food retailer apply to suppliers to both Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.
Another way to improve food safety is to ensure proper temperature control of refrigerated trailers and containers carrying perishable cargo. MarketsandMarkets projects the global refrigerated transport market to reach over $93 million by 2019, at a CAGR of 15.2% from 2014. That’s double-digit growth!
Werner Enterprises, a giant in the refrigerated transport market, is one company that has integrated this approach by using ORBCOMM’s reefer tracking and monitoring solution for its comprehensive temperature, fuel management, maintenance, and logistical services. The solution improves the efficiency of its cold chain operation. It also results in a stronger competitive edge, higher customer satisfaction and better regulatory compliance.
With over 100,000 assets tracked in the field, it is no surprise that companies like Werner Enterprises, Decker Truckline, J.B. Hunt Transport, John Christner Trucking, are using ORBCOMM as their refrigerated vehicle tracking and monitoring solution. It provides dual satellite/cellular communications capabilities and all the reports, events and alarms needed to provide superior refrigerated transportation services, reduce fleet operating costs and ensure compliance with regulations.
